This past year has seen us spend more time at home than we might be used to. As we reconnect with home life in the twenty-first century, we might sometimes wonder what it was like for the first Europeans who settled freely in Queensland. This exhibition examines the lives of Queensland’s early settlers from the end of the Moreton Bay Penal Settlement until Australian Federation. Covering the themes of domesticity, social status, labour, migration, and leisure, Domestic Life in Colonial Queensland tells the stories of some famous Queensland families, as well as shedding light on the experiences of lesser-known settlers. The exhibition displays a range of colonial-era objects that are both familiar and strange.

Domestic Life in Colonial Queensland is now open.
