Exhibition Opening of the The Ceramics of Muriel MacDiarmid.
The exhibition features the RHSQ’s outstanding collection of 25 pieces of Muriel MacDiarmid’s art pottery inspired by ancient and traditional pottery from across the globe. Working with local pottery teacher L J Harvey Muriel developed her own distinctive style and specialised in the reproduction of ancient and traditional vessels. These had an educational purpose, as Queenslanders had little access to original examples; she mostly copied works held by overseas museums. Timothy Roberts, an art historian specialising in Australian art heritage and material culture to 1945 and currently Curator at the David Roche Foundation House Museum Adelaide has curated this exhibition. A catalogue of the exhibition will be available at the opening.
Tickets include wine and cheese.
